Helpful Resources for New Moms

Having experienced and witnessed how confusing it can for new moms to try and read everything they can get their hands on about parenting, I have attempted to keep this page simple and useful. I have listed a few excellent resources below.

Babycare Info

1. www.AskDrSears.com (website)

2. The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two (Revised and Updated Edition)

Breastfeeding

1. La Leche League international (Website)

2. The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through Weaning

3. Helpful Nursing Links and Beginner Breastfeeding Links

Developmental Info

1. Download this brochure (PDF file format) from the Pathways Awareness Foundation - a guide for tracking your Baby's Physical Development

2. Your Baby and Child: From Birth to Age Five (Revised Edition)

More Ways to Learn..

1. Contact your local birth hospital to find out what classes they offer pregnant and new moms. Most hospitals offer classes on babycare and breastfeeding.

2. Join a mothers group once your baby arrives. This way you will meet other expectant moms in your community (essential supports) and have someone to call when you need to ask a question or just need reassurance that you are doing okay.

3. Choose an OBGYN / midwife and pediatrician whose opinion you value and trust. And someone who respects, affirms and encourages you and your ideas.

More Great
Parenting Books

  3. Screamfree Parenting: The Revolutionary Approach to Raising Your Kids by Keeping Your Cool by Hal Edward Runkel

  4. Motherhood and Me: Learn to Embrace what is wonderful about Parenting and gracefully survive the rest by Lindy Bruce

The feasibility of telephone counseling for Moms with PPD will be assessed individually and is dependent on severity of symptoms and risk. If I determine that you need to be seen in person, then I will act as a consultant or coach, educating and assisting you and your family to find the appropriate medical, mental and support services in your area.

If you are struggling in anyway
or would like someone to talk to about mothering concerns,
